5 Things You Can Do To Make Your Wedding Decor Unique

A wedding is one of the biggest and most seminal events in a person’s life. For the people getting married, they will likely remember every detail, down to the cocktail napkins, for years to come. Decorating for something like a wedding can often be excruciating because of the gravity of the choices you are being asked to make. People often fear making the wrong decorating decisions because they worry they will regret them, or that they will detract from the sentimentality of the day. Below are five things you can do to make your wedding decor unique.

Do your research. With so many great options out there, it is tempting to jump with the first decor scheme you fall in love with. Resist that temptation. There are so many great, original wedding decor options out there and finding something truly unique means building a catalogue that you can then put through a process of elimination.

Pay attention to your colour scheme. Your colour scheme will set the tone for the rest of your decor. Choosing colours that compliment the bridal party’s outfits as well as the venues limitations (i.e. will not clash with the existing features of the venue), while at the same time injecting some of your own personality into the decision, will allow you to plan an event with decor that is uniquely you.

Flower arrangements. The traditional pink, whites, yellows and purples of wedding flower arrangements are, without a doubt, tried and true. But there are myriad floral arrangements out there. Choose flowers that may be seldom seen in your standard wedding decor. If your wedding has a particular theme or motif, opt for flowers that compliment it. Bird of Paradise, orchids and hibiscus are striking examples.

Novel lighting. Keeping lighting tasteful and romantic doesn’t mean that you have to compromise on style. You can find beautiful, elegant string lights and oil table lamps that won’t make your wedding looking like a restaurant or a backyard patio party, while still ensuring that the atmosphere doesn’t rely on sterile, uninteresting lighting.

Use the vertical space. Walls don’t have to be blank canvases during your wedding. A fun way to add a unique, personalized touch to any wedding is to have old photographs, in a collage, around the venue for guests to peruse. Childhood photographs from each side of the family which shed some light on the character and personality of both people is a unique way of giving wedding guests some insight into the back story of the both sides.

People spend months getting their wedding decor just right and price and personal preferences need to be harmonized. Your wedding day should be modelled on who you and your spouse are as people, and while you can and should use examples of successful wedding decor as a jumping off point, making sure your personalities shine through by keeping some of the above tips in mind. This will allow you to execute a day which you, your spouse and both families will remember for the rest of their lives.
